my philatelic studies over the years focused mainly on treaty ports and foreign mails of China and Japan ... certainly the Hong Kong PO played a majour role, as clearing house for the bulk of sea-mail during the 19c... today, my collections include the typographic kobans of Japan - 1876-92; and the imitative woodblock reproductions : 1892-1910 of Maeda Kihei (a.k.a. Kamigata) ... explorative research in the woodblock area is ongoing, and I assist the ISJP CD project on forgeries ...

koban imitations of japan : plating studies

koban imitations, with cancel froms shown below ... are needed for plating studies.   the "spiro sheets" exist in multiples or 5*5 sheets ... most of these bear 9 no-date roman letter cancel forms "jokohama" or "nagasaki" ... also known are "white cross"and "star" indicia

5rin, 1 2, 4, 5 and 10sen sheets known to date ... also singles, pairs or block images ... this aids my plating study and analysis of the cancel matrices ...  scans welcomed also.     tourist sheet imitations also required, for ongoing cancel studies ...  these values are : 1,2,3,4,5,6,8,10.12,15,20,30,45 and 50sen.

GB machin study is a longtime interest, began in 1967 ... I subscribe to Douglas Myall's : Deegam Handbook CD ...

wanted GB machins 2011-06 .... will accept earlier lots to 1971. ... classic decimal !  (only recent NVIs) ...

this is a fabulous tool for collector or researcher in philately ... store multiple images within 1 record file ... the latest version of the program is larger, with many great new features ...database format (.MDB) and runs on Jet4 I use this program to organise trading partners, trade lots, auction finds, and special projects and album management. it provides a quick way to organise notes, and datestamp activities .... like science-lab , notes are important !

• s.v.p. do not send special issues of france in trade... "petits formats" seulement . self-adhesives ...

• other groups : liberte : sabine : mercure : paix : semeuse and sage ... Sage issues /w "chine" ovpts or china cancels (pre-ovpt) are also a longtime interest. ... part of my older "treaty port" collection ...
• methodology water immersion is ineffective. the adhesive is tenacious, relative to other printers ... bestine (heptane) will assist ... if sending sheet or vertical coil stamps are preferred ... off-paper. if, sending self-adhesive issues - on-paper is OK ....

SAP gums ... a solution

the UK , France and other nations are producing SAPs (self-adhesive) products that are well-stuck to papers.

philatelic hinge or gum removers have proven ineffective with 2009 security cut machins, or 2008-9 Beaujard and marianne series ... the machin forum offers this solution , for off-paper stamps... albumbound.
